Chickens and crops

Our Dragonfly family grows again. Two beautiful chickens were donated by Robin Hatton. To house them, we built a chicken tractor, which is a light-weight coop. This was a joy for me to work on because it involved many people coming together to make it happen. As well, I simply love building things. It was such an awesome group effort, and I thank everyone for their involvement. Vince donated/provided many bits of hardware, tools, the chicken wire, and some wood; Sunday and Joe donated roof materials; of course as mentioned, Robin donated the chickens; Brian and Kyla provided a table saw; Andy provided a ladder; Olathe and myself (Stephen) donated/provided some wood and tools; Wayne and Olathe did much babysitting so I could build; and many gave a hand in the actual building of the tractor including many hours put in by Clark, sorting and retrieving my messy tool/hardware collection. A great collaborative effort.

The chickens will be moved around the garden beds near the Big House, creating manure to fertilize the vegetable gardens. Speaking of which, many have worked the gardens but perhaps most notably Olathe. At this moment, there are wonderful beds of vegetable seeds growing. In addition to this, Joe has seed bombed the fields near his and Sunday’s site with alfalfa and clover. We are one step closer to revitalizing this farm.
